Mainstay Fuel Technologies Driving Natural Gas Development in the Upstate

April 6, 2015

One of the biggest challenges of implementing a cost-effective alternative fuel plan for any business is having access to the alternative fuel. Finding a high-quality natural gas station to support your operation is imperative, as well as the right vehicles for the job.

There are different options available depending on your needs – using a public compressed natural gas (CNG) filling station or a private CNG station tailored for your fleet, for example. As vehicle technology continues to evolve, you also need high-level expertise about the right equipment for your transportation needs.

That’s where Mainstay Fuel Technologies, Inc. can help. Mainstay designs, engineers and manufactures critical components for CNG-powered vehicular fuel systems. Since 2006, the company has produced and sold over 4,000 systems for medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.

Spire is working with Mainstay to further develop CNG adoption in the Upstate region, by building its Spire public access CNG station to accommodate new vehicle fueling technology for a seamless driver experience.

Spire strategically selected the Upstate area, putting Mainstay in a great position to help customers and haulers who are passing through the I-85 and 101 corridor.

Mainstay manufactures its fuel systems and components along I-85 in Piedmont, S.C. Conveniently located halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte, our plant’s location is one to two hours from most of the original equipment manufacturers’ (OEM) primary heavy-duty truck production facilities.

CNG is one of the most cost-efficient alternative fuels that have become increasingly common in recent years. The process of implementing CNG into your fleet has been simplified over the years. Mainstay is committed to providing one of the highest turnkey CNG option.

Through Mainstay’s partnerships, we are able to provide a complete process for the delivery and installation of your CNG fuel systems at conveniently located OEM certified installers, providing you with a Ship-Through option. Minimizing distance will help to control your fleet’s prep time cost.

Mainstay has engineered and designed the CNG fuel systems to aerodynamically fit within your OEM dimensions, to keep the look and feel of the CNG components and installation practices similar to an OEM experience.

Mainstay manufactures complete CNG fuel storage and delivery systems for Class 6, 7, and 8 heavy-duty trucks. Back-of-cab or side saddle configurations are available from 30-220 DGE to meet various fleet range requirements.

The Company’s Engineering group has deep experience in high-pressure natural gas applications, design configurations and Solidworks capabilities. Mainstay also has a formal R&D and product development effort, both internally and through relationships with research facilities such as CU-ICAR.

Mainstay is available to guide you through every step of the process by providing you detailed insight regarding your fleet’s mileage and range requirements while considering your fleet’s work load, proximity to CNG infrastructure and available options, along with other impacting factors. Mainstay looks to suggest several types of fueling options that will fit your budget and future plans. This overall analysis will help you feel more confident with your CNG fuel systems and components, and the benefits that you will reap by converting your fleet to CNG.

Mainstay and Spire are available to discuss your specific needs to help you determine to the most optimal CNG structure specific to your fleet.
